REPORTS TO: Director
of Educational Services
PURPOSE: This position is responsible for managing the classroom and delivering instruction to students in grades 4 and 5.
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS: Percent of allocation is as follows: 100% toward the Education Program.
Manage classroom responsibilities which may include but are not limited to the following:

Daily instruction in all core areas

Development and implementation of Beginning Classroom without Walls curriculum

Coordination and supervision of at least one Beginning Classroom without Walls field trip/month, including the following:
-
Planning and making arrangements for field trips
-
Coordinating and supervising transportation for students and staff
-
Leading and closely supervising students on monthly field trips that may involve physical activity, including climbing and hiking over rough terrain for an extended amount of time

Assessment of student academic performance

Development of academic goals for all students
-
Maintenance of current, accurate academic and behavioral files for each student
-
Periodic reporting of the academic and social/emotional progress of each student

Communication to parents, family support staff, student support staff and the Director of Educational Services, regarding student progress

Communication to and oversight of Classroom Assistant regarding responsibilities and expectations

Development and distribution of weekly lesson plans

Classroom and outside of classroom (e.g., PE) management using “Positive Discipline in the Classroom”
- Work collaboratively with agency staff to help meet the needs of students and their families. These staff members include but are not limited to members of the Education Family Support Services, and Administrative Departments and the Leadership Team.
- Continuously seek opportunities for professional development
- Communicate students’
behavioral and academic information to staff members using a variety
of methods including meeting participation, email and phone contact.
- Collaborate with
academic institutions, businesses and/or civic groups to develop
instruction improvement methodology.
- Keep abreast of current
educational research through professional publications, conferences
and cooperative projects with institutions and individuals committed
to similar goals.
- Participate in all
staff meetings, staff trainings and other events where applicable.
- Comply with agency policies and procedures.
- A current Washington State Teacher Certification.
- A Bachelors Degree in Education.
- A minimum of two years experience as a classroom teacher.
- Mastery of the skills associated with the subject(s) taught including but not limited to language arts, math and science.
- The ability to sustain strenuous physical activity such as walking, climbing and hiking over rough terrain for extended periods on field trips.
- Experience operating standard office equipment including a photocopier, FAX, telephone and computer.
- Must clear Washington State Patrol Criminal History check and obtain an FBI Fingerprint clearance.
- Must have completed Red Cross First Aid Training and have a current CPR certification.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A valid Washington State Drivers License.
- Must have demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative member on a team.
- Computer literacy using MS Word, Excel or Access, Publisher, Email and the Internet.
